I use my traditional vanilla buttercream to frost it. As much of the buttercream as possible should be smoothed out, then chilled while you make the fondant decorations to guarantee straight sides.Step 2: Use powdered sugar to dust a spotlessly clean surface to avoid sticking. Roll out fondant in at least four distinct colors to a very thin 1/8-inch thickness.Step 3: Cut various-sized rectangles out of the fondant using a pizza cutter or knife (if necessary, use a ruler for straight cuts). These are the package; the sizes will vary throughout them. Using different colors, arrange them in a circle around the cake’s base, touching on the sides.Note: To remove any extra powdered sugar, use a paintbrush made specifically for food.Step 4: Cut thin (1/4-inch) fondant strips to fit the height of each box using a pizza cutter or ribbon cutter, blending the colors however you desire.
